The History of the Sydney Architects

The list of top Sydney architects continues to grow with the most recent accolade coming courtesy of John James Hardiman who recently became the Member of the Order of the Bath alongside legendary Australian architectural designer Alexander Smith. Hardiman is a partner of Sweeny & Associates which is a development company which has designed many residential and commercial projects in Sydney and the surrounding areas. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture at the University of Sydney where he has pursued postgraduate studies in applied science, including civil engineering and building sciences. Aged 38, he is already an experienced project leader having worked on the construction of the London Tower.

John Hardiman started his career as an apprentice plumber before taking on his first architectural role when he was appointed as an assistant to renowned architect Robert Matthew Knight. After several years, he went on to join the firm of John James Hardiman & Associates where he continued his education, this time focusing on building architecture. While there, he honed his skills under the tutelage of renowned architect Frank Dobson. It was here that he honed his skills under the lead of another legendary architect, Flinders Lane Collier. Together they implemented the master plan for the Sydney Opera House which still stands to this day.

John has also spent time as a member of the planning and design team that led the drafting of the Millennium Park Master Plan. One of his other masterful accomplishments involves leading the planning and design team that designed the Botanic Gardens and Sydney National Park. With his years of experience, John is also now leading the planning and design team working on a residential housing project for a major development in Darlinghurst. This project will eventually be the tallest building in Darlinghurst and is expected to be completed in 2021.

John Hardiman is also well versed in other large-scale planning and design projects including transportation facilities, retail space, and commercial projects. In fact, he has designed some of the largest public transportation systems in Australia, including the Cross City Rail system in Melbourne and the Sydney Rail System. These massive structures have provided essential service to an enormous number of passengers daily. In addition, he has also designed a tramway connecting the Harbor Expressway in Sydney and the Harbor Bridge in Sydney. This structure is expected to open in 2021.

John Hardiman is also a member of the founding team of Skyscrapers, which is an architecture firm located in Sydney, Australia. Skyscrapers will be led by Skyscraper Design & Builders Company, which is led by John Hardiman. The company is responsible for the design and implementation of several large scale infrastructure projects throughout the country. John Hardiman is also a member of the advisory board of Urban Interface, which is an independent firm that is responsible for the design and implementation of sustainable city planning and technology solutions.
